Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our campaign before Christmas!! We had fun making endless photos and videos to keep you entertained : )
And now the hard work begins! We’ve started off with a bang this January and have recorded a brand new song sung and played by none other than my sister Valerie! She brought her ukulele down from Minneapolis, as she happened to be passing through on the way to a business conference, and popped by Into The Black studios to lay down “Postcard From Hawaii.” It’s a little ditty about the wonders of traveling around the world, something that Valerie knows a lot about. Thanks so much to our excellent house guest and creative tour de force R.D. Cane for taking these photos!
First we played the song that we’d written for Valerie, called Postcard from Hawaii. We wanted a simple song that sounded great on the ukulele and sent a message to kids that traveling is an exciting adventure. Here’s a sneak peek of the lyrics:
POSTCARD FROM HAWAII
THE WIND IS BLOWING STRONG
PALM TREES OUT MY WINDOW
BUT I WON’T STAY HERE LONG
NOW I’M IN AUSTRALIA
HOPPING KANGAROOS
FRANCE & SPAIN MOROCCO
BELGIUM, BELARUS
TRAVELING IS MY FAVORITE THING TO DO
SO GLAD YOU’RE COMING TOO

Then we took the gang to the studio where Val’s uke got miked up and ready to record! Yes that is Richard Duguay, the Dark Lord himself, recording a ukelele for the first time!
Then it was on to the vocals!
She nailed the whole thing! We are so proud, and so excited to have a brand new song in the can for Be Who You Are! Next progress report coming soon. : )
And as a very exciting side note, Tara is going to have a baby girl in mid-March – here she is kicking Tara like crazy, making her get on all fours to accommodate…maybe she’ll be a born performer!
