The UTLA teacher’s strike began today! Many students are not attending school in solidarity, including Violet who hosts this video. Why are the teachers of the Los Angeles Unified School District having a strike? Violet goes to the picket line at her elementary school to find out. She interviews her first grade teacher, Mrs. Ventura, as well as Magnet co-ordinator Julie Castro, and the school nurse. She finds out that the teachers are striking for smaller class sizes, more resources, full time nurses and better pay, especially considering that teachers haven’t had a raise in 20 years, during which inflation has risen by 27%.
